A 60-day voyage circling Australia is being halted days after the fatal incident of an senior female passenger who was abandoned by the ship on a isolated island.

The passenger had been trekking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the vessel, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The vessel sailed away leaving her and went back later that day after the personnel became aware the lady was unaccounted for.

An extensive rescue mission located her body the next day.

Officials are looking into the event, alongside police and the state coroner.

Head of the shipping company announced that guests and personnel on the ship were told that the rest of the voyage had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and previous mechanical issues".
